A702 West Linton and Abington | Resurfacing

24th of February 2025, 7:30pm to 14th of March 2025, 6:30am

A three-week programme of overnight resurfacing works at three locations on the A702 between West Linton and Abington is set to take place from 24 February to 14 March.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will renew the A702 carriageway at Abington Interchange on the M74, Robinsland Roundabout in West Linton, and a one-kilometre section between Dolphinton and West Linton.

The works will be carried out between 19:30 and 06:30 on Monday to Friday nights.

Works will commence at Abington Interchange on the nights of Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 February. On these nights the A702 overpass, South Roundabout and northbound off-slip at M74 Junction 13 will be closed, as well as the B7078 from M74 Junction 13 until its junction with Craighead Road. A signed diversion will be in place, with traffic wishing to join the M74 northbound diverted via M74 Junction 12 and traffic wishing to join the M74 southbound diverted via Junction 14. These diversions will add approximately 15 minutes to journey times. Non-motorway traffic will be diverted via the A73, A70 and B7078, adding approximately 36 minutes to journey times.

On the night of Thursday 27 February, Robinsland Roundabout in West Linton will be closed for resurfacing, with a diversion signposted via the A721, A701 and Bush Loan Road, adding approximately nine minutes to affected journeys.

The A702 between Dolphinton and West Linton will then be closed each night from Friday 28 February to Friday 14 March, except for Saturday and Sunday nights, again with a diversion signposted via the A721, A701 and Bush Loan Road.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager said: “These surfacing improvements will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracking, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway during the works, however we’ve scheduled them during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”
