A720 Dreghorn and Lothianburn | Resurfacing

12th of March 2025, 8:30pm to 15th of March 2025, 6:00am

A four-night programme of overnight resurfacing works on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass at Dreghorn and Lothianburn is set to commence on Wednesday 12 March.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will renew the road surface on the Dreghorn eastbound off-slip between 20:30 and 06:00 on the nights of Wednesday 12, Thursday 13 and Friday 14 March. Eastbound traffic wishing to exit at Dreghorn will be directed to follow a signed diversion via Hermiston Gait Roundabout, Calder Junction, the A71, Wester Hailes Road, the B701 and Dreghorn Link, adding approximately 0.4 miles and 9 minutes to affected journeys.

The A720 westbound carriageway will be closed for resurfacing at Lothianburn Junction between 20:30 and 06:00 on the night of Friday 28 March. A signed diversion route will be in place from Lothianburn Junction to Dreghorn Junction, via Biggar Road, the B701 and Dreghorn Link, adding approximately 0.8 miles and 6 minutes to affected journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager said: “These surfacing improvements will remove defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracking, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway, however we’ve scheduled the works during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”

Consultations have been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.traffic.gov.scot for up-to-date information and allowing extra time for their journey.
