A720 Eastbound Hermiston And Lothianburn | Resurfacing
A two-week programme of overnight resurfacing works at two locations on the A720 Eastbound between Hermiston and Lothianburn is set to commence 1 April.
BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, will resurface the eastbound slip road between Hermiston Roundabout and Calder Roundabout, followed by work between the Dreghorn and Lothianburn Junctions.
The work will be carried out between 20:30 and 06:00 on Monday to Friday nights.
Tuesday 1 to Monday 7 April - The A720 eastbound on-slip from Hermiston Roundabout to Calder Roundabout, will be closed, as well as the link overpass from Gogar to Calder Roundabout. A signed diversion will be in place. Traffic joining the A720 eastbound will be redirected north to Gogar Roundabout before returning east. Those heading for the A71 will be diverted from Gogar Roundabout via South Gyle Broadway, Broomhouse Road (B701), and will rejoin the A71 at Sighthill Roundabout. These routes will add approximately nine minutes to journeys.
Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 April - The A720 eastbound will be closed from the Dreghorn Junction to the Lothianburn Junction. Traffic will be diverted off the A720 via the Dreghorn off-slip, then onto Dreghorn Link, Redford Road (B701), Oxgangs Road (B701), Biggar Road (A702) and rejoining the A720 eastbound at the Lothianburn Junction. This diversion will add approximately six minutes to journeys.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager said: “These surfacing improvements will repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracking, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.
“It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway during the works, however we’ve scheduled them during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.
“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
