(UPDATE 31/10/24)
Please be advised that due to operational issues, the first phase of resurfacing works on the A75 between Barlae and Glenluce will begin on Friday 8th November. There will be no overnight works on Saturday 9th November and overnight convoy work will continue on Sunday 10th November and Monday 11th November between 8pm and 6am each night. Lane closures will remain in place during daylight hours throughout the duration of the works. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Tuesday 12th November.
The second phase of this scheme will then follow as planned. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A75 between Barlae and Glenluce in two phases. This work forms part of a wider programme of surface improvements across the A75 during Autumn 2024.
Phase One involves the resurfacing of 733 metres of the eastbound A75 from the start of the dual carriageway at Barlae from Thursday 7th November until Monday 11th November 2024. Between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night, there will be overnight convoy working at this location with lane closures in place. Lane closures will remain in place during daylight hours throughout the duration of the works. Please note, no overnight works will be required during the weekend of Saturday 9th November and Sunday 10th November 2024. All traffic management will be removed by 6am on Tuesday 12th November 2024.
Phase Two involves the resurfacing of 1,000 metres of the A75 from the second layby after the dual carriageway and the DVSA facility from Tuesday 12th November until Wednesday 20th November 2024. Between the hours of 8pm and 6am, each night, there will be total overnight closures at this location with a signed diversion in operation. Please note, no overnight works will take place between Friday 15th November and Sunday 17th November, and all traffic management will be removed by 6am on Thursday.
A75 westbound traffic will be diverted to exit the A75 via the A714 at Newton Stewart, following south towards Wigtown and onto the B7005 to bypass the town. From here, traffic will continue on the A714 to Braehead and will turn right onto the B7085 towards Port William. Traffic will then turn right to join the A747, re-joining the A75 at Glenluce.
A75 eastbound traffic will follow the same diversion route but in reverse.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
The safety of our workforce, the site, and the travelling public is of utmost importance when planning road maintenance. A convoy system cannot be implemented during Phase Two of these works due to available road widths, which fall below the legal requirements to ensure the safety of road users and road workers. The absolute minimum width required for convoy working is 7.3 metres as per Chapter 8 Traffic Management Regulations.
Amey do not tolerate any threats, abuse, or reckless behaviour that poses a risk to the workforce or the travelling public. Any evidence of such incidents recorded via roadside camera, body camera, or other device may be provided to the relevant authorities in such cases.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
