(UPDATE 11/11/24)
Please be advised that overnight resurfacing works on the A77 at Whitletts Roundabout in Ayr on Friday 15th November will now commence at 8pm and works on Sunday 17th November will now commence at 10pm.
Lane closures programmed for this week commencing 11th November 2024 have been cancelled.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A77 at Whitletts Roundabout in Ayr from Tuesday 5th November until Wednesday 20th November 2024. This maintenance forms part of a package of resurfacing works on the A77 this Autumn/Winter, which will include Bankfield Roundabout and Holmston Roundabout.
This scheme will benefit over 35,000 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the surface and journey quality for road users as well as reducing the need for future, more extensive maintenance.
Resurfacing of the Whitletts Roundabout will take place in six phases and the programme of traffic management is as follows:
Phase 1: Lane Closures
8pm-6am each night, Tuesday 5th November until 6am Friday 8th November
Lane closures on the approach to the A77 northbound from the A719 and the B743 Heathfield.
8pm Thursday 7th November until 6am Friday 8th November
Lane closures on the A77 southbound approach to Whitletts Roundabout and the A77 northbound departure from the roundabout.
Phase 2: Roundabout partial closure and exits full closures
11pm Friday 8th November until 6am Monday 11th November
There will be a total closure of the northbound section of the roundabout with a contraflow in operation for the southbound. The A719 roundabout arm will also be closed during this period.
A77 traffic intending to travel northbound will be diverted to turn left onto Highfield Drive, and left again to join the B743 Heathfield Road, before turning right onto Ayr Road. From here, traffic will follow the A79 northbound and then A78 southbound, re-joining the A77 at Dutchhouse Roundabout.
A77 traffic intending to travel southbound will be diverted to turn left onto Highfield Drive, and left again to join the B743 Heathfield Road, before turning left onto the A79 Ayr Road. From here, traffic will continue through Allison Street, John Street, and Station Road. At the A70 Holmston Road, traffic will be able to rejoin the A77 at Holmston Roundabout. Traffic for the Whitletts area will follow the above diversion in reverse.
The B743 Heathfield Road roundabout arm will also be closed with A77 northbound traffic directed to turn right onto Low Road to join the A719, before turning right onto Allison Street. From here, traffic will continue through Ayr Road, Main Street, the A79 northbound, and A78 southbound to re-join the A77 at Dutchhouse Roundabout. A77 southbound traffic will turn right onto Low Road, taking a further right turn onto the A719, before turning left onto John Street. From here, traffic will continue through Station Road onto the A70 Holmston Road, where it will be able to re-join the A77 via the Holmston Roundabout. Traffic for Ayr via Heathfield Road will follow the above diversion in reverse.
A77 northbound traffic intending to travel on the B743 eastbound towards Auchincruive will be directed to continue on the A77 through the contraflow and will exit at Sandyford Toll Roundabout to be able to access the B743. Westbound traffic from the B743 Auchincruive will join the southbound A77 and choose appropriate diversion for onward travel.
Phase 3: Lane Closures
8pm-6am each night, Monday 11th November until 6am Friday 15th November
Lane closures on the approach to the A77 southbound including the B743.
Phase 4: A77 mainline closure
8pm Thursday 14th November until 6am Friday 15th November
There will be a closure of the A77 southbound between Sandyford Toll Roundabout and the B743 exit at Whitletts Roundabout. Traffic will be diverted via the B742, A719, B730 and B743.
Traffic wishing to access the B743 east will follow the A77 north to Sandyford Toll Roundabout and then follow the above diversion.
Phase 5: Roundabout partial closure and exits full/partial closures
9pm Friday 15th November until 6am Sunday 17th November then 11pm Sunday 17th November until 6am Monday 18th November
There will be a total closure of the southbound section of the roundabout with a contraflow in operation for the northbound.
Traffic from the B743 Heathfield Road roundabout arm will not be able to join the A77 southbound and will follow the northbound A77 to Sandyford Toll Roundabout and return south through the works.
The A719 roundabout arm will be closed. Traffic will turn right onto Low Road then right onto A719 and right onto Allison Street to follow Ayr Road, Main Street, the A79 and the A78 to rejoin the A77 at Dutchhouse Roundabout. Southbound traffic will return through the works.
