A78 Eglington Interchange | Resurfacing

A78 Eglington Interchange
1st of March 2025, 8:00pm to 8th of March 2025, 6:00am

UPDATE (26/02/25): During the closures of the A78 to set up and stand down the contraflow, the southbound carriageway will now be closed at Pennyburn Roundabout. Traffic will take the first exit onto Stevenston Road to Kilwinning, continuing onto the A737 Lauchlan Way and Irvine Road to join the diversion detailed below.

During the works the northbound A78 will be closed at Warrix Interchange and Eglington Interchange, traffic will follow the off slip and on slip at both locations to continue on the A78.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A78 southbound carriageway at Eglinton Interchange in Irvine from Saturday 1st March until Saturday 8th March 2025. This work will take place under contraflow with additional overnight closures.

The traffic management programme for this resurfacing is as follows:

8pm on Saturday 1st March until 6am on Monday 3rd March 2025: A total closure of the A78 southbound carriageway between Eglinton Interchange and Warrix Interchange, including the Eglinton on-slip road and Warrix off-slip road. A lane closure of the northbound carriageway at this location will also be implemented.

6am on Monday 3rd March until 8pm on Friday 7th March 2025: A contraflow with a reduced speed limit will be in force on the A78 southbound carriageway between Eglinton Interchange and Warrix Interchange.

8pm on Friday 7th March until 6am on Saturday 8th March 2025: A total closure of the A78 southbound carriageway between Eglinton Interchange and Warrix Interchange, including the Eglinton on-slip road and Warrix off-slip road. A lane closure of the northbound carriageway at this location will also be implemented.

During overnight closures traffic on the A78 will be directed to exit via the Eglinton Interchange to join the A737 southbound. At Merryvale Roundabout, traffic will take the first exit onto the A71 and will re-join the A78 at Warrix Interchange. Traffic intending to use the Eglinton on-slip road will be diverted to continue onto the B7080, Long Drive and will travel south to the A71, where it will be able to re-join the A78 at Warrix Interchange.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the carriageway surface for a smoother ride quality and reducing the need for future, more extensive maintenance.

Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
