A78 Stevenston/Kilwinning | Resurfacing
UPDATE (1/4/25) Please be advised that in order to accommodate resurfacing works on the A78 trunk road in Stevenston and Kilwinning, including the Pennyburn Roundabout, a single overnight closure will be required on Sunday 5th April 2025 to install the contraflow. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A78 in Stevenston and Kilwinning, at Pennyburn Roundabout, from Sunday 6th April until Friday 18th April 2025.
From 6am on Sunday 6th April until 6am on Saturday 12th April 2025, a contraflow will be in operation at this location, and the Eglinton southbound off slip road as well as the B779 will be closed at this time. Traffic will be diverted as follows:
Traffic for the B779 will proceed north and turn right onto the A737 Lachlan Way, following Irvine Road to join the A78 at Eglinton Interchange.
Traffic for the Eglinton off-slip may exit at Pennyburn Roundabout for Kilwinning or continue on the A78 to turn at Warrix Interchange and leave the A78 at the Eglinton northbound off-slip.
Then, there will be overnight temporary traffic lights on the A738 that will close the A78 on approach to and exits from Pennyburn Roundabout between 8pm and 6am each night between Friday 11th April and Thursday 17th April.
During the overnight closures, traffic will be diverted as follows:
Northbound A78 traffic will leave at Eglinton Interchange and follow the A737 Irvine Road north through Kilwinning, before taking the first exit at Hillend Roundabout then turning left onto the B714 to re-join the A78 at Sharphill Roundabout.
Southbound traffic will leave at Montfode Roundabout and follow the A738 Eglinton Road through Pennyburn Roundabout, continuing on the A738 and A737 through Kilwinning to Eglinton Interchange to re-join the A78.
Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Friday 18th April.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
