A8 Between Bargeddie and Eurocentral | Resurfacing

Road users are advised that the A8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Bargeddie roundabout (A89 Coatbridge Rd) and Eurocentral Junction will be closed overnight for six nights, commencing Monday 02 December 2024, for road surface repairs and cyclic maintenance works. The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.

The works will be undertaken in six phases as follows:

Phase 1:
The A8 eastbound carriageway between Bargeddie roundabout (A89) and Bargeddie Junction (Showcase), will be closed for one night, from 8pm on the day below to 6am the following day:

•    Monday 02 December 2024 (1 night)

As a result, the following slip road will also be closed:

•    A8 eastbound Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) off slip road

A signed diversion route will be via A89 Coatbridge Road (east), take 3rd exit at roundabout, A752 Langmuir Road, take 2nd exit at roundabout for A8 eastbound at Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) on slip road and continue A8 eastbound for Edinburgh.

 

Phase 2:
The A8 eastbound carriageway between Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) and Shawhead Junction (A725) will be closed for one night, from 8pm on the day below to 6am the following day:

•    Tuesday 03 December 2024 (1 night)

As a result, the following slip road will also be closed:

•    A8 eastbound Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) on slip road
•    A8 eastbound Shawhead Junction off slip road for A725

A singed diversion route will be in place via A8 eastbound Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) off slip road to roundabout, take 1st exit for A752 Aitkenhead Road (South), B7001 Old Edinburgh Road (East for Bellshill), take 1st exit at Bellziehill roundabout for A725 northbound on slip road, A725 North Road and follow permanent signage or take A8 eastbound Shawhead Junction on slip road and return to A8 eastbound for Edinburgh.


Phase 3: 
The A8 eastbound carriageway between Shawhead Junction and Eurocentral Junction, including Carnbroe Junction, will be closed for one night, from 8pm on the day below to 6am the following day:

•    Wednesday 04 December 2024 (1 night)

As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:

•    A8 eastbound Shawhead Junction on slip road;
•    A8 eastbound Carnbroe Junction off slip road;
•    A8 eastbound Carnbroe Junction on slip road

Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:

Diversion 1 – For access to A8 eastbound Edinburgh & Eurocentral from Shawhead Junction via A725 southbound to Bellziehill Junction off slip road, take first exit at roundabout for A721 Gartcosh Walk Bellshill, continue east on A775 Campbell Street, Main Street Mossend, A775 Holytown Road, Main Street Holytown, B799 Bo’Ness Road and follow permanent signage for Eurocentral & A8 eastbound Edinburgh.

Diversion 2 – For access to Carnbroe Village via A725 northbound, Whifflet Street Coatbridge, B753 Calder Street, Sykeside Street, Paddock Street, Park Place Carnbroe, Carnbroe Road, Sweethill Terrace, Carnbroe Road.

Diversion 3 – For access to A8 eastbound from Carnbroe Village via Carnbroe Road, Sweethill Terrace, Carnbroe Road, Park Place, Paddock Street, Sykeside Road, Cairnhill Road, Calderbank Road, B799 Bo’Ness road and follow permanent signage for A8 and M8.      


Phase 4: 
The A8 westbound carriageway between Eurocentral Junction and Shawhead Junction will be closed for one night, from 8pm on the day below, until 6am the following day:

•    Thursday 05 December 2024 (1 night)

As a result, the following slip road will also be closed:

•    A8 westbound Shawhead Junction off slip road

A signed diversion route will be in place via Townhead Avenue Eurocentral, McNeil Drive, B799 Bo’Ness Road (South), A775 Main Street Holytown, A775 Main Street Mossend, A775 Campbell Street Bellshill, A721 Gartcosh Walk, take 4th exit on Bellziehill roundabout for A725 northbound on slip road, continue A725 northbound and follow permanent signage to return to A8 westbound at Shawhead Junction on slip road for Bargeddie & Glasgow.

Phase 5:
The A8 westbound carriageway between Shawhead Junction and Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) will be closed for one night, from 8pm on the day below, until 6am the following day:

•    Friday 06 December 2024 (1 night)

As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:

•    A8 westbound Shawhead Junction on slip road from A725
•    A8 westbound Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) off slip road

Signed diversion route will be in place as follows:

Diversion 1 – A725 southbound traffic via A725 northbound Bellziehill Junction off slip road, take 4th exit for B7001 Old Edinburgh Road, A752 Aitkenhead Road for A8 westbound Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) on slip road and Glasgow.

Diversion 2 – A725 northbound traffic via Whifflet Street Coatbridge, take 4th exit at roundabout (Dundyvan Rd) for A725 southbound Whifflet Street, A725 towards Bellshill and follow Diversion 1 above.

Phase 6:
The A8 westbound carriageway between Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) and Bargeddie roundabout (A89) will be closed on the following night from 8pm to 6am the following day:

•    Monday 09 December 2024 (1 night)

As a result, the following slip road will also be closed:

•    A8 westbound Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) on slip road

A signed diversion route will be in place via A8 westbound off slip at Bargeddie Junction (Showcase), take 2nd exit for A752 Langmuir Road, take 1st exit at roundabout to continue north on A752 Langmuir Road, take 1st exit at roundabout for A89 Coatbridge Road (west) and at A8 Bargeddie roundabout following permanent signage for M8, M73 or Baillieston.

These closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst road surface repairs and cyclic maintenance works are undertaken. Works have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to road users. The road will reopen at 6am each morning.
 

Local diversion routes will also be in place during the closures. 
 

Only one carriageway of the A8 eastbound or westbound, will be closed at a time for these works.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained provided cognisance is taken of roadworker presence. 
 

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council and the emergency services.
 

Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
