Road users are advised that the A8 eastbound carriageway of Coatbridge Road between Swinton roundabout and Bargeddie roundabout (A89), near Baillieston, will be closed for one overnight, on Wednesday 28 August 2024, from 8pm to 6am the following morning, for high mast inspections and bridge inspection works.

A signed diversion route for motorway and non-motorway traffic will be in place as follows:

For Motorway traffic take 3rd exit at Swinton roundabout for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Baillieston roundabout, take 2nd exit for M8 eastbound Junction 8 on slip road and continue M8 eastbound, M8 eastbound Junction 7 Eurocentral off slip road to Eurocentral North roundabout, take 3rd exit and cross M8 overbridge to Eurocentral South roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 westbound all-purpose road, continue A8 westbound for Shawhead Junction (A725), continue A8 westbound for Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) or continue A8 westbound to Bargeddie roundabout and A89 Coatbridge Road and follow permanent signage.

To avoid low bridge (4.7m/15’3’’) on A752 Cuilhill Road, from Lochend Road take A752 Gartcosh Road (north), Townhead Road Coatbridge, Blair Road, A89 Bank Street (west), A89 Coatbridge Road (west) to Bargeddie, continue A89 Coatbridge Road to Bargeddie roundabout, take 1st exit for A8 eastbound and follow permanent signage for Edinburgh.

The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential high mast inspections and bridge inspection works are undertaken and have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic. The road will reopen at 6am each morning. There will be no access through these works for emergency vehicles during the one overnight closure due large HGV maintenance vehicles, including hi-ab vehicles with telescopic arms working across both lanes one and two of the carriageway.

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, Glasgow City Council, North Lanarkshire Council and the emergency services.

Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

If you have any enquiries regarding these works, please contact us on 0800 042 0188 or info@scotroadspartnership.co.uk.
