This page has been archived. For information on live or future events and roadworks view our travel news.
Road users are advised that the A8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Bargeddie roundabout (A89) and Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) will be closed for two nights from Monday 16 September 2024, from 8pm to 6am the following morning, for bridge inspection works.
The works are planned to be undertaken in two phases as follows:
Phase 1 – The A8 eastbound carriageway between Bargeddie roundabout (A89) and Bargeddie Junction (Showcase), will be closed overnight on the following night from 8pm to 6am the following day:
· Monday 16 September 2024 (1 night)
As a result, the following slip road will also be closed:
· A8 eastbound Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) off slip road
A signed diversion route will be via A89 Coatbridge Road (east), take 3rd exit at roundabout, A752 Langmuir Road, take 2nd exit at roundabout for A8 eastbound at Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) on slip road and continue A8 eastbound for Edinburgh.
Phase 2 – The A8 westbound carriageway between Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) and Bargeddie roundabout (A89) will be closed on the following night from 8pm to 6am the following day:
· Tuesday 17 September 2024 (1 night)
As a result, the following slip road will also be closed:
· A8 westbound Bargeddie Junction (Showcase) on slip road
A signed diversion route will be in place via A8 westbound off slip at Bargeddie Junction (Showcase), take 2nd exit for A752 Langmuir Road, take 1st exit at roundabout to continue north on A752 Langmuir Road, take 1st exit at roundabout for A89 Coatbridge Road (west) and A8 Bargeddie roundabout following permanent signage for M8, M73 or Baillieston.
These overnight closures have been phased to ensure only one carriageway, east or westbound, is closed at any given time.
The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential bridge inspection works are undertaken and have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic. The road will reopen at 6am each morning.
There will be no access through these works for emergency vehicles during the two overnight closures due to large HGV maintenance vehicles including hi-ab vehicles with telescopic arms working across both lanes one and two of the carriageways.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council and the emergency services.
Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
