OLD MILITARY ROAD DIVERSION FOR A83 REST AND BE THANKFUL

In response to the wet weather forecast, BEAR Scotland will be diverting traffic at the Rest and Be Thankful onto the Old Military Road from noon today (Wednesday 10 April) as a precaution. A decision will be made about returning traffic to the A83 trunk road on the morning of Thursday 11 April.

There is a rainfall warning in place on Wednesday which will bring 40 to 50mm of rain in 12 hours, falling on already saturated surfaces. Use of the local diversion will maintain traffic flow along the A83 corridor and protect road users.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's North West Representative, said: “The forecast heavy rain at the Rest and be Thankful will significantly increase saturation levels on the hillside. While we closely monitor the situation, we've decided to activate the Old Military Road local diversion route as a proactive safety measure. Safety remains the priority and the use of the OMR  will ensure the route remains open for travellers, keeping Argyll very much open for business. Subject to the weather improving, we plan to inspect the hillside thoroughly on Thursday morning and this will inform a decision to return traffic to the A83.”
