A87 Uig | Surfacing Improvements

Road users travelling on the A87 in Uig will benefit from an improved road surface as works are set to be carried out next month by BEAR Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland.

The resurfacing improvements will involve resurfacing 1150m of carriageway between Rha Bank and Uig Pier to make it more durable and resilient against inclement weather, as well as providing a safer road for road users.

Works are set to get underway in two phases from Monday 16 September to Friday 20 September, then Wednesday 2nd October and Thursday 3rd October between 7pm and 7am with no works on Saturdays or Sunday evenings.

Due to restricted road widths through this section of the A87, this section of the carriageway will be closed in both directions to ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public. During periods of closure, amnesties at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12pm, 2am and 4am will allow waiting vehicles to be escorted through the site safely.

Access through the site for emergency service vehicles will be maintained at all times and bus services will be able to pass through the closure in order to maintain timetables.

Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours however, a reduced speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Junctions and access points adjoining the A87 will remain open throughout, however road users may be asked to wait whilst surfacing takes place past the junction. The A855 road will remain open throughout the closure. Entry and exit to and from the Pier will be maintained throughout and BEAR Scotland have proposed amnesty times to suit ferry timetables.
