A96 Union Bridge in Keith | Repair Works

A96 Union Bridge
2nd of March 2025, 12:00am to 18th of May 2025, 11:59pm

A £500,000 project to fully repair the weather damaged Union Bridge on the A96 at Keith is set to begin on Sunday 2nd March.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out work to reconstruct a damaged wingwall and reinstate the bridge's load-carrying capacity to allow the road to fully reopen to traffic.

Temporary traffic lights and a safety barrier are currently in place at Union Bridge, to prevent risks to pedestrians and road users, after the structure was damaged in summer 2024.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the essential repair work will be carried out under the following traffic management:

Sunday 2nd March – Advanced works and site clearance.

Full road closure of the A96 between Station Road and Banff Road.

Diversion Routes

Northbound traffic on the A96 can turn right at the road closure onto the A95/Banff Road. A signed diversion route to rejoin the A96 will be in place via the A95 to Portsoy and the A98 to Fochabers. Southbound traffic will be able to follow this route in reverse.

Escorts will be provided for residents who live within the closure. Foot traffic will be able to use the 'Auld Bridge' as a diversion route.

From Monday 3rd March to Sunday 18th May – Repair work.

Temporary Traffic Lights on Union Bridge to allow repair work to be safely carried out.

There may be occasions where further short-duration closures of the road are required. Further communications will be issued should this occur.

There is likely to be some noise associated with these works and Amey will look to programme operations to minimise any disturbance as much as possible.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
