Amey is set to carry out carriageway improvements to more than four miles of the A90 carriageway at Brechin from Thursday 11th January to Tuesday 30th January.

The £270,000 project, which Amey is undertaking on behalf of Transport Scotland, will address defects on 6.5km of the northbound A90 Brechin bypass.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the essential maintenance will be carried out using a contraflow system.

The contraflow will be located from 1200m before the northbound off slip at A935 St. Ann’s junction to 500m past the northbound on slip at B966 Keithock junction.

Work will be carried out on the northbound carriageway, with northbound traffic diverted onto the southbound carriageway where single lane traffic will be running in both directions.

To set up the traffic management there will be a northbound lane closure in place between 7.30pm and 11pm on Friday 12th January, followed by a total closure of the A90 northbound between 11pm and 6.30am, with a signed diversion in place via Brechin to B966 Keithock Junction.

There will then be a further lane closure from 6.30am on Saturday 13th January to 7.30pm on Sunday 14th January.

The contraflow will be in operation from 7.30pm on Sunday 14th January until 6.30am on Tuesday 30th January.

Carriageway improvements to the southbound carriageway are currently planned to take place immediately after completion of the northbound improvements, with a contraflow system again in place. The southbound work is scheduled to be completed by Sunday 11th February. Further details around this work will be issued in January 2024.

A90 northbound St Ann’s to Keithock Junctions Slip Closures

During the works the A935 St Ann’s junction northbound off slip and the B966 Keithock junction northbound off slip will be closed with signed diversions in place.

Northbound traffic looking to exit at Brechin will be diverted to Strathcaro services where they can return back down the A90 southbound and enter Brechin via the southbound off slips.

The northbound on slip at St. Ann’s junction will also be closed. Traffic will be diverted to the A90 Keithock junction on slip through Brechin, where they can access the A90 travelling northbound.

The concrete carriageway repairs will benefit more than 20,000 vehicles who use this route each day.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
