M73 Junction 2 and Junction 3 | Various Overnight Closures
Road users are advised that the M73 northbound and southbound carriageways between Junction 2 Baillieston and Junction 3 Mollinsburn will be closed overnight on weekdays over a two-week period, commencing Monday 17 February 2025 for essential structure investigation works.
The works are planned to be undertaken in two phases as follows:
Phase 1 – The M73 northbound carriageway between Junction 2 Baillieston and Junction 3 Mollinsburn will be closed overnight for 10 nights, from 8pm to 6am the following day, on the following dates:
· Monday 17 February to Friday 21 February (5 nights))
· Monday 24 February to Friday 28 February (5 contingency nights, if required)
As a result, the following slip roads and link road will also be closed:
· M73 northbound Junction 2 Baillieston on slip road from Baillieston roundabout
· M73 northbound Junction 2A Gartcosh off slip road
· M73 northbound Junction 2A Gartcosh on slip road
· M73 northbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn off slip road to Cumbernauld Road (A80)
· M73 northbound Link Road to M80 northbound at Junction 3 Mollinsburn
Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:
Diversion 1 – M73 northbound traffic for Stirling & The North, follow pre-signed route via M73 northbound Link Road to M8 westbound at Junction 2 Baillieston Interchange, continuing M8 westbound to Junction 13 Blochairn/Parkhead, to join the
M80 northbound at Junction 1 Blochairn on-slip. Continue M80 northbound for Stirling & The North.
Diversion 2 – From Baillieston roundabout for M73 northbound, Stirling & The North, take 3rd exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 eastbound Coatbridge Road to Bargeddie roundabout, take 3rd exit for M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston on slip road and follow diversion 1 above.
Diversion 3 – M73 northbound traffic for Moodiesburn and Gartcosh follow Diversion 1 above then leave the M80 northbound at Junction 4 Mollinsburn off-slip road, Mollins Road (south) and follow permanent signage for M73 (Carlisle) for route to Gartcosh or A80 Cumbernauld Road for Mollinsburn/Moodiesburn.
Diversion 4 – From Gartcosh for M73 northbound Stirling & The North via M73 southbound Junction 2A Gartcosh on slip road, M73 southbound Junction 2 Baillieston off slip road for Baillieston roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 eastbound Coatbridge Road to Bargeddie roundabout, take 3rd exit for M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston on slip road and follow diversion 1 above.
Phase 2 – The M73 southbound carriageway between Junction 3 Mollinsburn and Junction 2 Baillieston will be closed overnight for 10 nights, from 8pm to 6am the following day, on the following dates:
· Monday 24 February to Friday 28 February (5 contingency nights, if required)
· Monday 03 March to Friday 07 March (5 nights)
As a result, the following slip roads and link road will also be closed:
· M80 southbound link road to M73 southbound at Junction 4 Mollinsburn
· M73 southbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn off slip road
· M73 southbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn on slip road
· M73 southbound Junction 2A Gartcosh off slip road
· M73 southbound Junction 2A Gartcosh on slip road
· M73 southbound Junction 2 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston Roundabout
Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:
Diversion 1 - M80 southbound Junction 4 Mollinsburn Link Road & M73 southbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn on slip closures continue M80 southbound to Junction 1 Blochairn off slip road, take 2nd exit at roundabout for M8 eastbound Junction 13 Blochairn on slip road, continue M8 eastbound and follow permanent signage for M8 at Junction 8 Baillieston Interchange for M8 Edinburgh or M73 & M74 (South for Carlisle).
Diversion 2 – M80 southbound for access to Mollinsburn/ Moodiesburn/ Chryston follow diversion 1 above to M8 eastbound Junction 8 Baillieston off slip road for A89 Coatbridge and Bargeddie roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 westbound
Coatbridge Road for Swinton roundabout, take 1st exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road for Baillieston roundabout, take 1st exit for M73 northbound Junction 2 Baillieston on slip road, Continue M73 northbound to Junction 2A Gartcosh off slip road or continue M73 northbound for Junction 3 and follow permanent signage for Mollinsburn/ Moodiesburn/ Chryston.
Diversion 3 – From Gartcosh for access to M73 southbound Carlisle & South via M73 northbound Junction 2A Gartcosh on slip road, M73 northbound Junction 3 Mollinsburn off slip to roundabout at A80 Cumbernauld Road, take 2nd exit for Mollins Road, M80 southbound Junction 4 Moodiesburn on slip road, continue M80 southbound to Junction 1 Blochairn off slip road, take 2nd exit at roundabout for M8 eastbound Junction 13 Blochairn on slip road, continue M8 eastbound and follow Diversion 1 above and permanent signage.
Emergency services access will be maintained but extra caution and a reduce speed is requested due to the presence of highways operatives and plant equipment, including Hi-Ab vehicles.
The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential structure investigation works are undertaken and have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic. The road will reopen at 6am each morning.
Only one carriageway of the M73 northbound or southbound will be closed at a time.
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling at these times to check their route.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Amey, North Lanarkshire Council, BEAR Scotland and Glasgow City Council.
Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
