M74 Junction 11 | Resurfacing
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the northbound M74 between Junction 11, including the on-slip, to prior to Junction 10, from Wednesday 4th December until Friday 20th December 2024.
This work will take place in two phases. Phase One requires overnight closures of the northbound M74 between Junctions 12 and 10 between Wednesday 4th December and Friday 6th December, during the hours of 8pm and 6am each night. During these closures, northbound traffic will be directed to exit the M74 at Junction 12 via the B7078 and return to the M74 via the Junction 10 on-slip.
Phase Two takes place under a 1+1 contraflow with a 50mph speed limit in place between Junctions 11 and 10 from 8pm on Saturday 7th December until 6am on Friday 13th December, and again between 8pm on Saturday 14th December and 6am on Friday 20th December. During this contraflow, the Junction 11 on-slip will be closed and traffic will be diverted via the B7078 Carlisle Road to join the M74 at Junction 10.
Please note, these carriageway surface improvements have been co-ordinated alongside a programme of ongoing bridge refurbishments on the M74 at Nethan Viaduct (Junction 10). Bridge refurbishments will continue while resurfacing is underway, using the traffic management arrangements detailed above to avoid further closures in the future. In addition, there will be a 2+1 contraflow with a 30mph speed limit in operation between 6am and 8pm on Saturday 7th December, and between 6am on Friday 13th December and 8pm on Saturday 14th December. Full details of the project are available here.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
