M74 Junction 6 | Essential Resurfacing

M74 Junction 6
8th of February 2025, 8:00pm to 14th of February 2025, 6:00am

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the M74 northbound at Junction 6, including the northbound Junction 6 on-slip, from Saturday 8th February until Friday 14th February 2025.

This work will require daytime hard shoulder closures on the northbound Junction 6 (Hamilton) on-slip on Sunday 9th February and Monday 10th February between 6am and 8pm, and carriageway lane closures between Junctions 5 and 6 on Tuesday 11th February and Wednesday 12th February, also between 6am and 8pm.

Overnight closures of the northbound M74 between Junctions 5 and 6 will also be in operation between 8pm and 6am each night, as well as closures of the north and southbound on-slip and Hamilton and the northbound on-slip at Motherwell. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Friday 14th February.

  • Northbound carriageway traffic will be directed to leave the M74 at Junction 6 and follow the A723, A72, B7071 Bothwell Road and the Bellshill Bypass to re-join the M74 northbound via the Junction 5 on-slip. Traffic wishing to use the closed northbound on-slips will be directed to follow the above diversion.

  • Traffic wishing to use the southbound Hamilton on-slip will continue on the A723 Hamilton Road and turn right on to Airbles Road, follow to the roundabout to take the fourth exit to return to the A723 and join the M74 via the southbound on-slip at Motherwell.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
