M8 Junction 6 (Newhouse) and Junction 8 (Baillieston) | Overnight Closure

Road users are advised that the M8 westbound carriageway between Junction 6 Newhouse and Junction 8 Baillieston will be closed overnight for four nights from Monday 20 August 2024, for essential carriageway resurfacing works. The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and is required to ensure road user and road worker safety.


The works are planned to be undertaken as follows:

The M8 westbound carriageway between Junction 6 Newhouse and Junction 8 Baillieston will be closed overnight for 4 nights, from 8pm to 6am the following morning, on the following dates:

Monday 20 August to Thursday 23 August (4 nights)

As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:

· M8 westbound Junction 6A Chapelhall on slip road

· M8 westbound Junction 7 Eurocentral on slip road

· M8 westbound Junction 7A Shawhead off slip road to A725 Bellshill bypass

· M8 westbound Junction 8 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston roundabout (M73/A8)
 

A signed diversion route will be in place during the closures via the A8 westbound Newhouse Junction all-purpose road to the A8 westbound Chapelhall Junction South roundabout, take 2nd exit to continue A8 westbound all-purpose road to Eurocentral Junction South roundabout, take 3rd exit to continue A8 westbound all-purpose road to Bargeddie roundabout (A89 Coatbridge Road), take 1st exit for A8 westbound Coatbridge Road and return to M8 westbound at Junction 8 Baillieston on slip for Glasgow. For access to M73 North and South continue A8 westbound Coatbridge Road to Swinton roundabout, take 1st exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road for Baillieston roundabout and follow permanent signage for M73 North (Stirling) or South (Glasgow South East/Carlisle).

Local diversions will be in place.


Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling.

Emergency services access will be maintained but extra caution and a reduce speed is requested due to the presence of highways operatives, plant equipment and different road surface levels due to the resurfacing works.

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, BEAR Scotland South East Unit and the emergency services.

Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
