M9 Junctions 9 and 11 | Bridge Works
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is set to carry out joint replacement works on Knockhill Bridge, which carries the M9 over the C34 local road west of Bridge of Allan.
For the safety of road users and the workforce during these works, the northbound M9 will be closed between Junctions 9 and 11 on the nights of Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 March, between 20:30 and 06:00.
On the night of Tuesday 11 March, the southbound M9 between Junctions 11 and 10 will also be reduced to one lane, to allow works to be undertaken on the central reserve.
The southbound M9 will then be closed between Junctions 11 and 9 on the nights of Wednesday 12, Thursday 13 and Friday 14 March, between 20:30 and 06:00.
The diversion route for both northbound and southbound closures will be signposted between M9 Junctions 9 and 11, via the A84 and A9. This diversion will add approximately 17 minutes and 8.5 miles onto affected journeys.
The local road underneath Knockhill Bridge will remain open.
These joint replacement works are necessary in advance of bearing replacement works to be carried out later in the year. The programme for the bearing replacement works is currently being finalised and details will be announced in due course.
David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “The project to replace the joints on this bridge is essential to prevent water ingress before we replace the bridge bearings later in the year.
“These works will ensure that this motorway structure continues to provide a safe and reliable service for years to come.
We’re grateful to motorists and local communities for their patience and understanding and recommend that they check the latest travel updates, plan ahead and allow extra travel time for journeys on the M9 during these works.”
Consultation has been carried out with relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the works in advance.
All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
