M90 Kirkliston | Bridge Works

3rd of December 2024, 8:00pm to 20th of December 2024, 6:00am

The M90 southbound carriageway on the approach to M9 Junction 1A Kirkliston will be closed on 14 nights in December, to allow strengthening works to be completed on the bridge carrying the motorway over the B9080.

Since early September, southbound lane closures and a temporary speed reduction have been in place on the M90 at this location while Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland worked on the bridge.

On the nights of Tuesday 3 to Friday 6 December between 20:00 and 06:00, southbound carriageway closures will be in place to allow temporary safety barriers to be removed. After this, all daytime traffic restrictions will be lifted.

On the nights of Wednesday 11 to Friday 20 December between 20:00 and 06:00, ten further overnight southbound carriageway closures will be required to allow an expansion joint on the bridge to be replaced.

During these closures, southbound traffic will be diverted from Scotstoun Junction via the A90 towards Edinburgh, the A902 Maybury Road southbound, and the A8 Glasgow Road westbound, to join the M9 at Junction 1 Newbridge, adding approximately 9 miles and 20 minutes to affected journeys. The northbound carriageway of the M90 will remain open.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “The project to repair and strengthen this bridge is nearly complete.

“A series of full overnight carriageway closures are now required to allow us to remove the temporary safety barriers safely and replace the existing joint.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and understanding and recommend that they check the latest travel updates and allow extra time for their journeys during these closures.”

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
