A 14-week programme of overnight maintenance works is set to get underway on the M80 and M73 motorways.

The works consist of various maintenance activities, including installation of new safety barriers, replacement of bridge joints, surfacing repairs, various cyclic maintenance activities and structural concrete repairs at a number of different locations on the M80 between Junctions 2 and 7 and the M73 between Junction 3 and the M80.

Teams will work in phases over the 14-week period, moving on to the next section in the programme once the various works are completed at each location.

To keep workers and road users safe, sections of the M80 and M73 will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am, with signed diversions in place.  There will be no traffic restrictions outwith these times.

Further details of the individual schemes, traffic management and diversion routes will be published on BEAR Scotland’s website www.bearscot.com prior to each phase commencing.

All dates are subject to change in the event of adverse weather or operational requirements.

Commenting on the works, Carnie Morrison, Highway Management (Scotland) Limited General Manager, said: “This essential programme of maintenance works will help ensure that the M80 and M73 motorways are kept in a safe condition.

“The works will be carried out overnight when traffic flows are reduced, to minimise delays as much as possible.

“Road closures are vital to ensure the safety of the workforce and motorists, however we will look to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible.
